Im not super woman

A couple of weeks I fixed something my son had broken.  He asked me how I did it.  I responded to him with the answer "I am super woman" My son was like no your not where is your cape? He insisted I wasn't super woman for the rest of evening.  Well last night my family was sitting around the living room watching some TV and my son was doing his homework.  He asked me for help, I helped him figure out the answer and he said to me "Mommy your smart but your still not super woman" I said "why not" he says "cause your not skinny"  :(

  2. Brains is more important than beauty anyways....besides...you're making the changes you need and you will be healthy (note I didn't say skinny because I don't exactly WANT to be "skinny" I want to be healthy!)

  3. It is so hard with little ones and teaching them not to judge when they don't say it to me mean they just notice the difference. We try not to say fat or tell our little one that he is too heavy to use his little brothers toys. It is really hard. I have been hurt in the past my innocent children who just happened to say what we all already knew, that I was big! ugh! Don't let it hurt you.

  4. Aww don't be down on yourself about that, you can be superwoman at anysize- besides if your son knew how hard you try he would think you are superwomen.

  5. :( Aww. Kids are kids, and you know he didn't mean it the way you took it.
    It still hurts though.

  6. kids are brutal without meaning to be. they just haven't learned to fiter yet. My husband's friend has a daughter who asked me on time, "how did you get so fat?!" She asked it in such a way that I just looked at her and didn't know how to respond. I just said that I didn't take care of myself well and she shouldn't make the same mistake. She just kind of nodded her head and moved on to the next question.

I think what makes those things hurt is that we are so aware of our own fatness that we just hope that the people who love us and see us the most forget to be aware...we just want them to see us as we want to be, not how we are.

  7. I agree with Dani - kids just don't have a filter and don't know that saying things like that is hurtful.
one thing I have taught my son (who is 6) is that you do NOT point out how big ("fat") someone is... it's rude and will hurt their feelings if they hear you. I tell him that some people are big because they are unhealthy or have problems in their life, and are really sad that they're that big, so it's not nice to point it out.
I hope you know that your son didn't mean to hurt you.
